The truth is out thereβ¦
The wife and I have been finished season 1 of βThe X-Filesβ recently. Weβre absolutely loving it, you would be surprised how good the quality of the episodes are now. They have obviously been remastered and we watch them on Hulu. Early on the episodes seem to hover around just weird things as opposed to βaliensβ specifically but when it does touch on things outside of this world the show really hits itβs stride.
We have found a pretty compelling overall story arch. Scully and Mulder each have their motivations clearly, Mulderβs being best defined. His sister was abducted and never returned when they were both children to flashing lights and a strange figure in the doorway, this sparked a curiosity with what it was and what it could mean for him and the world. They have displayed this moment twice in the show thus far as a flashback and in a current day episode the same lights and obscure figure show up at an observation dish in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, where Mulder is investigating.

The best episodes of the series thus far are directed by David Nutter most recently of Game of Thrones fame. He directed the famous episode of GOT that you my remember, βThe Red Weddingβ. Yes, that director. The tension that even his early work was able to build is awesome. He directed 15 episodes in total from 1993 to 1997 for the X Files. The wife and I will be looking forward to all of them. The first episode from him that you see in season 1 is called βIceβ and takes place at a Ice coring research post in the north of Alaska during a sort of βquarantineβ situation.
There is beginning to be more development of the relationship between Mulder and Scully, I think weβre going to enjoy it. Are they soul mates? I think they could be. The writers are slowly giving Scully opportunities to show little hints that she likes him more than just as a partner. Little brushes of the hand and acknowledgements of their existence together. Subtle but just enough to make the audience see it.

The curiosity that I have for what lies out there in the galaxy and beyond is really something that grabs me consistently. This show does that exceptionally well. I guess Iβm their targeted audience, lol. The imagery they use or absence of imagery and not βoverdoingβ it a strength of this show. The viewerβs imagination will always be more powerful than anything you can actually put on screen. Being able to imagine what it might be is fun.
Iβve had many conversations where I talk about the math that goes into our universe. Humans are bad at understanding numbers immediately before writing it down and seeing it. But even then seeing the final number doesnβt get completely understood. Imagine, we have 9 planets in our solar system (including pluto), and there is evidence that likely 2 maybe 3 those planets have had goldilocks conditions in their history, potentially hosting life and maybe intelligent life. We have at least two in this solar system, but there are billions of solar systems in this single galaxy alone and then there are billions of galaxies. Lets just say the numbers add up. In my assessment thereβs no way that we are alone. Because where thereβs one there are many.

There are newer seasons that were released within the last few years that I am looking forward to making it to. The style Iβm sure will be different but a modern touch and better budgets for CGI etc. Hopefully it doesnβt feel like a soft reboot and an actual continuation of the series.
Overall for the first season I would just like to request that there be more of a focus on Aliens. I want more of it to feel like it could be trying to explain our contact with ET for real. Too much of the first season felt like stuff wasnβt explained and one off big events that were focused too much on mythological type aspects as opposed to βotherworldβ type themes. The best moments are all about ALIENS! So lets stay focused.
Season 1 gets a 7/10 with peaks and valleys.
Yeah, the video quality really took me aback at first! So great they could make it look so much better.
But itβs so funny how different early shows like this are from more modern onesβthey are super focused on the subject matter with only bits of the personal drama of the main characters thrown in. Whereas modern shows reallllly tend to grab you with the personal drama (Iβm thinking like Law and Order: SVU). Looking forward to more personal stuff next season, hopefully!
